Mental disorders are commonly experienced among young people, with about one in five adolescents who have a diagnosable mental disorder. Children and teens who show signs of a mental illness may begin drinking alcohol and/or taking drugs or exhibit changes in their normal behavior (e.g., irritability, feeling sad, withdrawing from friends, problems in school).

Yet, the signs and symptoms of a mental illness can sometimes be so subtle that it can make it difficult for parents to detect. It is important to recognize that even subtle changes (e.g., irritability) in your child’s or adolescent’s behavior can be a warning sign of a mental disorder and seeking professional help may be necessary if his or her symptoms start to become unmanageable.

Taking The Teen’s Life Experiences Into Account

Being proactive about a teen’s mental health is one of the best choices anyone can make. It gives the teen a better chance at having a happy and balanced life free of anxiety, depression and self-doubt. We take into account other factors that may play a role in the teen’s mental health, such as experiencing a parental divorce, going through trauma or having been adopted, all of which may have a profound influence on mental health.

Levels Of Care

Comprehensive medical and biopsychosocial assessments are completed during the admissions process to fully diagnose and treat the primary mental disorder along with any co-occurring conditions. We individually tailor our mental health treatment programs to meet youths’ specific needs by providing a combination of evidence-based, complementary and experiential treatments along with different levels of care, including residential treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and a partial hospitalization program (PHP).
