Dual diagnosis, also known as co-occurring disorders, is a condition characterized by having multiple mental illnesses and/or multiple addictions simultaneously. As an example, a person with co-occurring disorders might have depression and alcoholism, anxiety and schizophrenia, or opioid and cocaine addiction. Individuals with co-occurring disorders are often more difficult to treat, in part, because one disorder tends to exacerbate or even conceal another.
As part of our dual diagnosis program, Sovereign Health clinicians closely evaluate each and every patient to identify and treat any underlying mental health conditions that may be contributing to the substance abuse. Patients then receive a case manager as well as expert treatments targeted directly toward their symptoms. Our treatment involves innovative, cutting-edge techniques to strengthen cognitive skills, provide rehabilitation, and create a long-term support system and plan. We work with the patient’s family, former doctors and therapists to provide the most effective treatment possible.
